The Malakoff Sank in fog when skipper confused lights, assuming them to be those of the lighthouse at Cap D'Artrutx. The full speed,head on collision with "Governers Rock" a small outcrop rising out of the sea on the south coast near Cala'n Turqeta tragically sent her to the bottom. This historcical French cargo ship was heavily salvaged in 1927.It has now become a magnificent artificial reef with an abundance of spectacular sea life.
